UPix social photo app launch

DDD Group announces that its subsidiary GenMe has launched the innovative new UPix™ social photography app in the Google Play™ store.

UPix simplifies and improves the process of creating the ideal selfie by allowing the user to capture the optimal shot of the background scene with the rear-facing camera and then overlaying their selfie image in the best position which is separately captured with the user or front-facing camera. UPix uses the company’s latest background replacement technologies to automatically remove the background from the image taken with the front facing camera so that only the user’s head and shoulders remain for integration with the background scene.

The UPix app includes intuitive touch screen controls allowing the user to position and resize their head and shoulder image in the best position in front of the background scene providing the ultimate in selfie composition. To accommodate differences in lighting between the rear and front facing cameras, UPix includes the ability to adjust the colour and contrast of the two images for a natural looking picture. The app also allows the user to save their favourite headshots for re-use on future selfies.

In a unique first, UPix also makes selfies interactive, allowing friends to add themselves into the original selfie and share it on. The interactive selfies, or “groupies”, are created by downloading and using the original selfie as the UPix background and using UPix to add a second person’s head and shoulder selfie into the original picture before saving it and re-sharing it. The UPix app allows others to become part of the groupie at any time and from anywhere in the world.

UPix also enables the creation of virtual selfies, where fans can create and share selfies with their favorite musicians, actors and sports stars. With the continual growth in the use of social media with television shows and films, this creates a closer bond between the stars and their fans all over the world.

With Google estimating that more than 93 million selfies are created and shared every day, UPix is available to a global audience of well over one billion Android mobile device owners. The UPix app is currently compatible with Android 4.0 and later, representing over 97% of the devices serviced by the Google Play store.

The beta release of UPix is now available as a free download from the Google Play store. An in-app purchase of $0.99 allows the UPix watermark to be removed from selfies created with the app.

More information on the UPix app is available at www.UPixapp.com

Chris Yewdall, Chief Executive of DDD, said:

“UPix is a highly innovative mobile app that targets millions of users globally who are creating and sharing digital selfies on social media every day. With UPix, users can now create the perfect selfie without having to worry about clumsy selfie sticks or whether their faces are shaded by the position of sun or ambient lighting.

UPix also makes photography social for the first time, by allowing your friends to become part of the moment even though they aren’t physically there.

UPix is the latest solution for the burgeoning Generation Me audience that we have built around our newest, patent-protected, real time background removal technologies.”

The company is presently developing an iOS version of the UPix app which it expects to launch in the Spring of 2016 for owners of Apple iPhone® and iPad® devices.

DDD launches TriDef SmartCam for Windows

DDD Group has launched TriDef® SmartCam™, an innovative real time background replacement solution for popular Windows PC applications.

TriDef SmartCam is DDD’s first software solution which is targeted at growth markets with a total addressable market forecast to exceed 1.8Bn units per year by 2018 in the 2D video conferencing and game video creation markets. It turns a conventional PC webcam into a powerful compositing tool that can replace the user’s immediate environment with alternative background images and filter effects in real time.

Users of popular video conferencing applications such as Skype™ and Google’s Hangouts™ communication platform can use the TriDef SmartCam solution to video conference while replacing their office or home surroundings with images of their choice, allowing them to transport themselves to far away locations or share their favourite photos during a video call.

Importantly, as a software application, TriDef SmartCam does not require any special hardware such as a 3D sensor or ‘green screen’ to perform the background replacement. This solution is both highly cost effective and easy to distribute as it has been created to ensure that it is already compatible with many popular Windows software applications, which already have hundreds of millions of users globally.

Based on DDD’s extensive image analysis expertise and technologies, TriDef SmartCam has been developed in close collaboration with some of the world’s leading video conference and game video software developers with millions of test sequences having been processed to refine the performance of the algorithms used in the solution.

TriDef SmartCam is now available as a free download for Windows PC devices from DDD’s TriDef website. A seven day free trial can be downloaded, with a $14.99 purchase enabling the product at the end of the trial period.

Chris Yewdall, Chief Executive of DDD, said:

TriDef SmartCam represents the first in a new line of 2D software solutions that DDD has been developing, which are targeted at significant installed user bases of popular software applications that are widely used by business users and consumers alike. We expect that the software will yield a considerable return on the investment that we have made in its development.

We have leveraged our world class expertise in real time image analysis to create a highly innovative solution that is easy to download, simple to use and is already compatible with dozens of well-known Windows software applications.

DDD announces new solutions for emerging 3D sensor market

DDD Group has launched a new range of software solutions aimed at the emerging market for 3D sensors.

TriDef® SmartCam enables real time ‘green screen’ user tracking and background substitution using the
conventional webcam found in virtually every notebook PC.

With the ability to remove the user from their immediate environment, the user’s image can be overlaid into popular applications including video conferencing and business presentations creating fun and immersive video conferences and more engaging, personalized presentations.

TriDef MotionView brings the latest dynamic perspective capability to many popular Android smartphones and tablets. Using feedback from the existing sensors in the device, TriDef MotionView enables the user’s perspective of a game or photo to shift as they tilt their Android phone or tablet, yielding more immersive gaming and interactive photography experiences.

The market for 3D sensors is forecast to grow to over 1.8 billion units annually by 2018 according to research data published in January 2014 by market research firm DisplaySearch.

DDD recently commenced marketing these new capabilities to existing and new licensees and has received a positive response with the first beta tests having commenced in November with tier one PC and mobile OEMs. The company expects to introduce the TriDef MotionView capability as part of its TriDef Games application for Android devices in early Q1 2015, where it will be available for download from the Google Play store.

The company also announced that it has formed a new wholly-owned US subsidiary, GenMe Inc., which will be responsible for marketing and commercializing these new solutions with licensees and end users.

Chris Yewdall, Chief Executive of DDD, said:

DDD’s new product range leverages our world class understanding of real time image processing to
deliver cost effective solutions that enable unique experiences on a broad range of mass market
devices.

Drawing on our well proven Windows and Android products, TriDef SmartCam and TriDef MotionView
allow us to address significant emerging growth markets.

These are the first in a series of products that DDD is developing which we expect will bring innovative
and engaging experiences to users worldwide.
